synopsis
Based on Ernest Hemingway's posthumously published novel, this movie tells the story of Thomas Hudson (George C. Scott), a famous, wealthy and much-married novelist who, as the film opens, spends his days boozing, fishing, and philosophizing on the Caribbean island of Bimini. Gradually, the tension builds as World War II looms over the horizon. His various ex-wives come visiting, bringing along their grown children, and incident piles upon incident until Hudson himself is drawn into the war effort.
