Synopsis by Mark Deming
A man who serves as a liaison between artist and the state stars in a handful of satiric episodes in this episodic comedy from Vladimir Sivkov. Alexey Pankratov (Pavel Gustov) is a creative bureaucrat, overseeing the Department of Culture in the Russian Inza district, but he's also a gifted painter in his own right, creating canvases in a style influenced by Marc Chagall and dabbling in archeology. Pankratov is the common link in eight short stories, ranging from a profile of Vladimir Putin and a visit with painter Katya Medvedeva to chance meetings with eccentric locals and vain attempts to explain the role of the avant garde to country folk. Inzeyen -- Malina (aka Inzeyen - Sweet Delight) was screened in competition at the 2007 Rotterdam International Film Festival.
