This documentary, part of the Investigative Reports series from A&E led by series host and producer Bill Kurtis, takes an inside look at New York City's Emergency Services Unit, a unique arm of the New York Police Department. From talking down suicide jumpers, to controlling drug dealers, to saving people from horrific automobile accidents, these men and women of the NYPD's ESU team risk their lives as they help others. Each ESU member is certified as an Emergency Medical Technician, but also is trained in a variety of specialties, including scuba and high-level rope rescue. They must also be up on the latest advancements in weaponry and be able to offer psychological counsel to a possible jumper. Interviews with some of the ESU team members reveal firsthand what these men and women experience each and every day. The director of the ESU also speaks about the role of these men and women in protecting New York City.
