In this installment of The History Channel's Investigating History series, filmmakers attempt to separate fact from fiction in order to explore the lives of Butch and Sundance while also investigating claims that the pair survived their violent shootout with the Bolivian Army. Few outlaws possessed such a remarkable ability to elude the long arm of the law, yet for all of the bank and train robberies carried out by Butch and Sundance authorities consistently fell just short of capturing the notorious Wild Bunch. Criminals who would readily share their wealth with common people whom they perceived to have been mistreated by the banks, Butch and Sundance would eventually retire to Argentina in an attempt to peacefully live out the rest of their days as modest sheepherders. Unfortunately their reputation would eventually catch up with them even in South America. Though some historians claim that Butch and Sundance died in a shootout with the Bolivian Army, others claim that Butch may have in fact returned to North America, assumed a new identity, and lived out the remainder of his days in Spokane, Washington
