In Washington D.C., an American heiress (Rita Jolivet) is charmed by the old world ways of an archduke. Although she is loved by a young Congressman, John Oglesby (Elliott Dexter), the heiress accepts when the archduke proposes. But the archduke discovers that he can't marry her unless she has a title, so he convinces his friend, a Count, to marry and then divorce her so they can then wed. The marriage to the Count takes place, but then Oglesby discovers that the archduke already has a morganatic marriage which has produced a child. The girl realizes the archduke has misrepresented himself, but the Count refuses to divorce her and let her go on her way, even after her father (Marc Robbins) tries to bribe him. Finally, Oglesby sticks a gun in the Count's face and insists that he will marry the girl, either as a divorcee or a widow. The Count obligingly divorces the girl and she and Oglesby are together at last. This picture was based on the stage play by George Broadhurst.
