Synopsis by Mark Deming
Few hard-rock bands have gone through as many personnel changes as Deep Purple, and fewer still have enjoyed as great a level of success for so long; despite their many changes, the band has retained a solid connection with their fans and is still acknowledged as one of the most influential bands of the '70s. Inside Deep Purple 1969-1973 - A Critical Review features rare concert footage of Deep Purple on stage, as well as the thoughts of a panel of musicians and critics who dissect the music and stylistic changes of Deep Purple during a crucial four-year stretch in their history which produced the albums In Rock, Fireball, Machine Head, and Live In Japan.
