Synopsis by Mark Deming

Though their career lasted only three years, Cream proved to be among the most influential British groups of the 1960s -- incorporating members of other successful bands, they were one of the first great "super-groups," they helped pioneer the "power trio" format, their blues-based hard rock sound helped set the stage for the coming rise of heavy metal (as well as furthering the cause of blues-rock), and they established Eric Clapton as a guitar hero of the first order. Inside Cream: A Critical Review 1966-1969 is an independent examination of Cream's recorded legacy, featuring the thoughts of rock writers and fellow musicians as they discuss the lasting impact of the group's music. Also included are rare performance clips of Cream in concert.
