This Italian comedy is based on the novel Il Cavaliere Inesistente by Italo Calvino, and mixes live action with animation. The story concerns a "nonexistent" knight in the days of Charlemagne, who assists in fighting off the Turks (who nearly overran Europe). He is followed in his adventures by a squire, a loving female knight, and another "real" knight, who admires him and loves the female knight. The adventures are narrated by a nun, who is actually the female knight.
