Love, life, and death serve as the focal points of this intensely personal drama about a recently released convict who is unable to recognize the outside world following four long years in prison. Bobby has served his time, and now he must venture back out into the real world and try to pick up the pieces of his fractured former life. But quite a bit has changed over the course of Bobby's incarceration; his ex-girlfriend Penny is now hooked on drugs, their young daughter has been placed in foster care, and his sister is doing her best to pull her life together following an abusive relationship. As if that isn't enough information for Bobby to process, his former mentor Murphy gets his kicks by paying Penny for sex, and his old friends Dawn and Gerry drifted increasingly further apart following a tragic miscarriage. Dawn has been keeping her terminal illness a secret from Gerry, who has in turn been carrying on a secret affair with a pretty local waitress. But nothing is constant in this world, and it won't be long before everyone involved is forced to step back and reevaluate their lives in a manner that will make them question everything they ever thought they knew.
