Synopsis by Mark Deming
Filmmaker Thomas Bogaert manipulates some iconic sights and sounds from American cinema of the Seventies in this animated short subject. In I Am A Star And I Come And I Go, Bogaert rotoscopes John Travolta's big dance solo from Saturday Night Fever and turns the disco king into an image of pure white light gamboling against a golden backdrop. As the spectral dancer goes through his moves, the familiar music of the Bee Gees is heard in the background -- only it's being played in reverse, creating a sound that's alien but eerily familiar. I Am A Star And I Come And I Go was screened in competition at the 2007 Rotterdam International Film Festival.
