synopsis
The Swedish comedy-drama Husband by Proxy featured popular Scandinavian leading-lady Gosta Ekman. The story revolves around the efforts of a European marquis to land a wealthy wife and a handsome dowry. This coincides with the schemes of a social-climbing American matron to marry off her daughter to a nobleman. Through a series of mistaken-identity complications, everybody ends up wedding the wrong person. Nearly two hours go by before the whole mess is straightened out to everyone's satisfaction. Outside of Ekman, the cast seems to have been populated by unknowns.
