Dimwitted detectives were a staple in silent comedy (and, in fact, the tradition carried onto sound films and is still reworked today). This Plump and Runt comedy features the duo (big Oliver Hardy as Plump and little Billy Ruge as Runt) as the dimmest of detectives. General Debility (Bert Tracy) has some important government documents in his possession. He also has an eye for the ladies, and a spy, Countess Mudge de Lummox (Mudge Cohen) takes advantage of this weakness. She seduces the general with her charms and steals the plans. The general's wife (Ray Godfrey) is fed up with her philandering husband and hires detectives Plump and Runt to serve her husband with divorce papers. At the same time, the general has hired the boys to retrieve the documents. Naturally, Plump and Runt confuse the divorce papers with the documents. When Mrs. Debility decides to reconcile with her husband, she asks for the divorce papers back and Plump and Runt hand her the government documents, so in spite of everything, all turns out well.
