Synopsis by Ed Atkinson

This video is an excerpted reissue of the classic instructional golf film Bobby Jones: How to Break 90. Originally filmed in 1931, this film essentially created the sports instruction film format. Legendary golfer Bobby Jones, who was at the pinnacle of his career at the time of filming, conducts a basic lesson on the mechanics of the golf swing, something that had only been done through books and personal lessons. Though the mechanics of the swing Jones teaches are nearly flawless, with the change in club technology (the move away from wood shaft clubs), some of his methods are outdated. This particular release of is comprised of excerpts from the original film. Much of the footage left out of this release was that of Jones' career, which may be of more interest to the modern golfer than his swing mechanics. Even without the cut footage, this video provides an interesting look into the history of golf and how it entered the modern world of film and video.
