synopsis
This video is part of a series that traces the development of the comic strip. Comic strips began to appear in the 1890s. By 1900, to increase readership, they became a regular feature in Sunday color supplements in American newspapers. This episode looks at the early strips, like Krazy Kat, Little Nemo in Slumberland, and The Katzenjammer Kids. The Great Depression saw the rise of a whole new breed of adventure comics, such as Tarzan, Terry and the Pirates, Flash Gordon, and Dick Tracy. The video showcases the beauty of the artwork, as well as the creativity that went into creating this pop art form.
