Synopsis by Hal Erickson

Ernest Warde once again directed his actor father Frederick Warde in the Thanhouser five-reeler Hinton's Double. A variation on a familiar theme, the film casts Warde in the dual role of clever swindler John Hinton and unemployed clerk Joshua Stephens. To secure the financial well-being of his daughter and granddaughter, Stephens agrees to take Hinton's place when the latter is sentenced to a lengthy prison term. During his tenure behind bars, Stephens saves the life of detective Clancy (Wayne Arcy). Out of gratitude, Clancy sets about to foil the duplicitous Hinton, who has been perpetrating one crime after another while posing as the hapless Stephens.
