Acting in silents worked for opera star Geraldine Farrar, so why not try another diva? So thought film studio Select, who signed up pretty Anna Case from the New York Met. Case's talents, however, lay more in her voice than in any pantomimic skills, as she proved in her film debut, The Hidden Truth. It opens up in the old west, where Helen (Case) is a singing waitress in a saloon. A girlfriend of hers has a mean-spirited, abusive husband. The wife finally shoots and kills him, but Helen is accused of the murder. She is acquitted and goes east to get a fresh start. There, she hooks up with a mine owner (Charles Richman). Some crooks are trying to cheat him out of his fortune, but Helen informs him of their plan, and also wins him as a husband. This film had quite a bit of potential if Case hadn't been so stiff.
