Synopsis by Jason Buchanan

Intrigued by a 60 Minutes report on heroin use in Willimantic, Connecticut's Hotel Hooker, filmmaker Josh Goldbloom decides to investigate the scourge firsthand and makes a surprising discovery. A former rooming house that has since fallen into disrepair, the Hotel Hooker was the subject of an intense investigation by famed newsman Dan Rather. Could it really be as bad as Rather and his crew presented it to be? Upon moving into the Hotel Hooker, Goldbloom discovers that the long-standing residents of the building felt bitterly betrayed by the incendiary media report. Eventually gaining the trust of the locals, Goldbloom uses this access to offer a much more nuanced and evenhanded portrait of Willimantic than the award-winning news magazine. The people he encounters may be struggling, but they're a far cry from the helpless, hopeless souls they were portrayed to be on 60 Minutes. In speaking with them at length, the curious filmmaker discovers that they take great pride in their city, and learns about their efforts to make it a better place.
