Synopsis by Clarke Fountain
The experiences of a family of poor Algerian villagers as they confront the upheavals and changes of the 20th century are the focus of this film. After the French-Algerian war, with the French colonists mostly sent back to their own people, the villagers must now adjust to running things on their own. The mother of one family tries to cope with profiteers and local corruption; her husband is unable to help because he has been driven slightly crazy by French torture.
