Synopsis by Jason Buchanan

Filmmaker Megumi Sasaki continues to explore the subjects of her 2008 documentary Herb and Dorothy with this follow-up detailing the couple's generous national gift program -- the donation of 50 works from their extensive collection to 50 art museums across the United States. Over the years, postal clerk Herb and librarian Dorothy Vogel used their modest incomes to amass an impressive Minimal and Conceptual Art collection comprised of 4000 pieces. Although the couple announced plans to donate their extensive collection to the National Gallery of Art, the NGA responded that they would only be able to keep 1000 pieces. Determined to see their collection preserved, Herb and Dorothy launched the 50 x 50 gift project. In this film, art lovers get a glimpse into the development of that initiative, as well as its eventual outcome.
