Synopsis by Tracie Cooper

Directed by Reza Karimi, this Iranian film takes a stand on a controversial topic: sexist custody laws in a patriarchal society. Sharzad (Niki Karimi) is a female lawyer whose son, seven-year-old Nima (Ponya Islami), is in the sole custody of her ex-husband. Though Sharzad claims she is not a feminist, per se, she has no tolerance for laws that blatantly discriminate against women, particularly because her son's diabetes is being neglected by his father. The former couple fight it out in court, but the judge is biased from the start, and Sharzad decides to take matters into her own hands. Unfortunately, the fate of Sharzad and her family is tragically altered when she winds up in an accident that lands her in the hospital.
