Synopsis by Elizabeth Smith

As the 20th century's first six decades unfolded, Americans welcomed new technologies, blockbuster films, and a growing list of talented entertainers. These same years ushered in major wars and tragedies. Volume one of this four-part series reviews some of the major news stories that greeted Americans during this period. Viewers will learn about the flying Wright Brothers, the popular film Gone With the Wind starring Clark Gable and Vivian Leigh, and the Beatles' first performances in America. Details are also shared about the explosion of the Hindenburg in 1937, and the 1963 assassination of President John F. Kennedy. The footage contained in this volume was compiled from the Hearst News Reel Archives. The other three titles in this series are Headline Stories of the Century: America in Sports, Headline Stories of the Century: American Nostalgia, and Headline Stories of the Century: World War II.
