synopsis
Based on a series of British children's novels by Elizabeth Arnold, the weekly, 25-minute Gypsy Girl made its ITV debut on February 19, 2001. The title character was Freya, a Romany lass played by Gemma Gregory. Like many members of her tribe, Freya possessed magical powers; but unlike some of her contemporaries, she always tried to use her magic for a good cause. That peerless comedienne Eleanor Bron camped it up in the role of Gran. Seven episodes of Gypsy Girl were produced in all.
