Synopsis
In Part 2 (of three), Jared Diamond explores reasons why Spanish Conquistadors conquered the Incas in 1532 "instead of the other way around." In Spain, Diamond examines the 16th-century European military technology---both metallurgical and equine---that enabled Pizarro's 168 mercenaries to decimate an 80,000-man Incan army in one day without suffering a single fatality. The Spanish also brought smallpox with them. It was a "weapon," says narrator Peter Coyote, "they didn't even know they had."
