synopsis
An unfortunate outing for all concerned, this is a high-budget film with good stars badly miscast and poorly directed. O'Toole is a less than bright British officer who, together with the British Ambassador, seeks an audience with Russia's Catherine the Great. When her amorous advances are thwarted by the captain, she gains her revenge by imprisoning him and forcing him to recount his Revolutionary experiences in the United States. Playwright George Bernard Shaw was not fond of this little bit of fluff and the audience wasn't either.
