Synopsis by Rose of Sharon Winter

This program is part of a series from the History Channel that examines some of the mistakes, miscommunications, miscalculations, and mishaps, that shaped -- and sometimes altered -- the course of World War II. Both sides had their share of wrong moves, but in the end, the Allies parlayed their right moves into a victory which defeated the Axis powers and restored peace to the world. This episode investigates the plot to kill Adolf Hitler. Many of his own men began to realize and accept that the Fuhrer was delusional and insane, and wanted to get rid of him for the sake of Germany and the world. But the plan went awry, when the valise containing a bomb was put in the wrong place, and Hitler survived the blast. The plot's leaders then experienced the death they had wished on their leader. Archival film clips, photographs, personal accounts, and scholarly commentary tell the story.
