From this collection of tales of raw courage and burning passions for achievement, comes the story of Christopher Columbus and the New World. While born the son of a Genoan wool comber, Columbus descended from a long line of seafarers. As a young man, he realized he possessed the talents and character for an adventurous life on the sea and devoted himself to his studies. Considered qualified at the age of 14, he began the career that brought him enduring fame and glory. But success came at a high price. Columbus faced and survived battles with Tunisian galleys, shipwrecks, imprisonment, and illness. In the end, his daring expeditions led to the discovery of the New World. This video documents Columbus' remarkable victories against the odds. Other documentaries in the Great Adventurers series examine the life and times of Robert Falcon Scott, David Livingstone, Sir Walter Raleigh, Sir Francis Drake, and Ernest Shackleton.
