This film, produced and directed by Don McGlynn, was the first documentary ever made about the much-admired trombone player and "big band" leader Glenn Miller, who died at the age of 40 in a wartime plane crash. The film includes footage from rare home movies and newsreels, with performances by the band at the high point of their popularity. Among the well-known numbers featured are "In the Mood," "Chattanooga Choo Choo," "Moonlight Serenade," "Kalamazoo," and "Pennsylvania 6-5000." James Stewart and Henry Mancini discuss the Hollywood movie The Glenn Miller Story, in which Stewart played the title role. Also appearing in the film are Tex Beneke, Billy May, Mel Powell, George T. Simon, Ray McKinley, and others.
