The first of the BBC's efforts to fill up the summer-recess TV hours for the network's youthful fans, Get Set for Summer began its Saturday-morning run in 1981. Hosted by radio DJ Peter Powell and future Blue Peter regular Marc Curry, the series was topheavy with comedy sketches, games, stunts, and celebrity interviews. Originating on BBC's Northwest service, the program was eventually beamed out to the rest of the nation. Get Set for Summer ran until 1983, by which time short films had been added to the potpourri and the title had been changed to The Saturday Picture Show.
