Synopsis by Eleanor Mannikka

Perhaps inspired by the success of acclaimed fellow Bengali director Satyajit Ray, other Bengali directors like Rajen Tarafder in this instance, are trying their hands at filming culturally relevant dramas. In this tale which falls far short of Ray's standards in visual and poetic rendition, a young fisherman who works in Bengal along the holy Ganges River has a deep-rooted desire to get in his craft and follow the river to the open sea. Not for any ethereal reason, but to look for better work. His adventurous idea is stillborn, however, when he is unable to overcome his insecurities and the superstitions that keep him shackled to his job.
