Though Martin (John Mahoney) has long had dibs on the title of the Crane family's "resident invalid," this changes when Frasier (Kelsey Grammer) throws his back out. As Frasier recuperates, all manner of silly complications and misunderstandings revolve around him. The limit comes when Daphne (Jane Leeves) is led to believe that Frasier is carrying a torch for her -- whereupon a heavily medicated Frasier finally spills the beans about Niles (David Hyde Pierce)...sort of.
