Synopsis by Janiss Garza
Captain Douglas Gordon of the Highland Guards (Robert Warwick) is always willing to fight for the underdog -- unfortunately the underdog rarely appreciates it. When he gets in the middle of a domestic argument, it turns out the husband, who he slugs, is his commanding officer. So he runs away to America, where he is being followed by a strange man. Believing him to be from Scotland Yard, Gordon does everything he can to avoid him. He winds up as the "fourteenth man" at a dinner party held by the Tidmarshes (Robert Dudley and Sylvia Ashton). They are the guardians of Marjory Seaton (Bebe Daniels, poised on the brink of stardom after her stunning performance in Don't Change Your Wife) and they are about to announce her engagement to a man she doesn't even like. Naturally she finds she likes Gordon a whole lot better, but before they wind up together, a lot of complications ensue including a robbery, a blown safe and the arrival of the "Scotland Yard man" who turns out to be a British agent who informs Gordon he has inherited a title and a fortune. This farcical comedy was based on the play by F. Anstey Guthrie.
