Synopsis by Hal Erickson

Of all the movie versions of the A.E.W. Mason adventure novel Four Feathers, this 1915 adaptation is the most obscure. If contemporary reviews can be trusted, the film deserves its obscurity. The plot follows the exploits of Harry Faversham (Howard Estabrook), who after deciding not to join his regiment in the Sudan, is branded a coward with the traditional white feather. He goes on to prove his valor in various decisive ways, eventually returning the four feathers sent to him at the beginning of the story. A film of this nature required a sweeping, epic treatment, which the budget just plain didn't allow.
