Synopsis by Eleanor Mannikka

Entertaining for children and adults alike, Flussfahrt Mit Huhn tells the story of four children who gang together to take a trip downriver to the North Sea, closely followed by their desperate grandfather, who was supposed to be watching them while their parents were away. When cousins Robert (David Hoppe) and Johanna (Julia Martinek) are left in the care of their grandfather while their respective parents go off to a resort for a vacation, Robert is ecstatic because this is his chance to motorboat along the Weser River that runs past his grandfather's backyard, flowing northward to the North Sea. Robert engages two neighbor boys in this adventure, and at the last minute, his cousin Johanna and a hen named Gonzo hop on board. Grandpa has caught on to their scheme and soon gets out his own craft to pursue them and bring them back home before their parents find out what has happened. From that point forward, the three boys, one girl, and one hen have a series of unexpected adventures -- as does the grandfather -- that take them through an area under military maneuvers, the underground caverns of an abandoned factory, and into all sorts of challenges along the river. After several times rounding the bend, it looks like the goal of the open sea might really be feasible -- and maybe there will be some way to placate the set of parents as well.
