Synopsis by Brian Whitener

This eight-minute tape represents the sum total of the one of the first broadcasts of community television in the United States. After the passing of the FCC regulation setting aside space for community groups on cable, a group of University of Texas at Austin students organized ACTV (Austin Community Television). This first broadcast features an interview with George Stoney, a community television pioneer who tells a story about trying to start a cable station in Mexico. Because of the technical limitations of the time, the student set up the playback equipment on top of a hill directly beneath the cable company's antenna.
