If hair-pulling ennui is tantamount to the feel of living in the state of Minnesota, then writer/director Douglas Baidelman's debut film is highly successful. The film relies on Three Stooges-style slapstick for laughs: everyone smacks each other Keystone Cops-style, especially the ridiculously paired brothers, Keanu Reeves and Vincent D'Onofrio. Though watching Cameron Diaz is certainly not a chore, her charm can hardly save this wretched piece of dreck. Even when the film begins to right itself with some excellent music and a rugged mise-en-scene, a botched performance (usually by Reeves) or some failed plot pretense manages to shatter any semblance of worth. Although guest spots from Delroy Lindo and Courtney Love threaten to add cult flair, Dan Ackroyd's Conehead-esque supporting performance balances out whatever appeal the cameos may have created.
