This Russian documentary, filmed in 1992, examines the situation of Jewish people living in post-Gorbachov Russia. The lives of 5 Ukrainians are profiled. They are a child-care worker, a Jewish activist, a folk singer, a politician, and a popular music stage designer. Each person is interviewed at work. All reflect upon their country at a time when many other Jews are trying to leave it. Interspersed a month the interviews are archival film clips of important events such as a major flood in 1961, and a mass grave found near Kiev. That was where many Jews were slaughtered in 1941. The film, as even the director admits, is poorly subtitled into English.
