Synopsis by Jason Buchanan
Originally envisioned as a basic examination of the fan lifestyle in America, filmmaker Nick Tucker's documentary Fandom gradually evolves into a deeply personal portrait of celebrity obsession as Tucker turns camera on an idealistic young man from a small northern California town who has recently been invited to meet the celebrityhe admires most. In many respects, Gordon is your typical movie lover; he hails from a typical small town and he's quick to light up when it comes to the topic of movies. He's also a huge fan of Natalie Portman, so when he's invited to meet the Star Wars star he's understandably excited. But as Gordon reels at the prospect of coming face to face with the actress he admires so much while a full documentary crew captures every moment of the interaction, it isn't long before he begins to get swept up in the hype, loses his bearings, and sails hopelessly adrift into the wild world of Fandom.
