Synopsis by Perry Seibert
For Pan Nalin's documentary Faith Connections, the filmmaker traveled to Kumbh Mela, a spiritual event held once every three years by Hindus that swells to over 100,000,000 people. The director lets attendees speak openly about their faith, and the range of passions expressed by people from various locations and varying socio-economic backgrounds paints a portrait of the power of faith. Among the profiled are a young boy who has had to learn to survive on his own and dreams of both becoming a powerful criminal, and a devout monk. Faith Connections screened at the Toronto International Film Festival.
