Synopsis by Alice Duncan
The Fabulous '60s, a ten-part documentary series narrated by Peter Jennings and originally aired on ABC, is about the turbulent decade when international tensions, philosophical differences, and a movement towards expanding consciousness produced a kaleidoscopic view of life. Excerpts from film and television coverage review significant events in politics, international news, and developments in science and technology. They also provide a look at popular culture, sports, and entertainment. Highlights from the year 1964 include: the Gulf of Tonkin resolution, authorizing U.S. military action in Southeast Asia; the removal of Nikita Khrushchev as Soviet premier; and the murder of three civil rights workers who had been encouraging black citizens to register to vote.
