A successor to the CBC cultural series Exploring Minds and Scope, the weekly Explorations could be described as the Canadian equivalent to the distinguished American TV anthology Omnibus. Running a gamut of topics from politics to the arts, the series offered short films, experimental plays, interviews, and in-depth news documentaries -- often within the time-frame of a single episode. The talent represented included prolific producer/director Darryl Duke and musical-comedy favorite Don Francks. Originally telecast on a biweekly basis, the series eventually went weekly in its second season, frequently focusing on a single topic ("The Balance of Nature," "Music to See," etc.) for several weeks at a time. A cooperative effort from the CBC and the National Film Board of Canada, Explorations ran from 1955 to 1964.
