Synopsis by Eleanor Mannikka

Six years after Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice opened "Evita" in London's Prince Edward Theater, this 1984 Argentine documentary by Eduardo Mignogna approaches Eva Perón's controversial life and career with an even-handed perspective. Mignogna interviews authorities holding widely divergent opinions on her nature: she was favored by the gods or she was motivated by hatred -- her death changed Juan Perón's political career or she did not alter Argentine history. In addition to this range of opinions, Mignogna has been able to supply a great deal of information on the famous woman that is not commonly known, a valuable asset of the film. A second asset is his approach to laying out her life and death by using a fictional segment on her train trip from Junin and her early life, to her future in Buenos Aires -- with flashbacks and flash forwards filling in the journey to her destiny.
