In 1970, a mammoth expedition consisting of hundreds of Sherpas, and over two dozen Japanese (including a film crew) set out for the upper slopes of Mount Everest. Their purpose was to film Yuichiro Miura in his attempt to set a world record for high-altitude skiing. Six of the expedition's Sherpas died in an avalanche on Everest. This documentary of that expedition is narrated in English. The highlight of the film, as of the expedition, is footage (from three different perspectives) of Miura snow-plowing down an extremely steep slope, trailed by a parachute brake. He barely manages to avoid plummeting to his death in a deep crevasse.
