Synopsis by Connor McMadden

Entre Nous, a film about the quest for individuality, is set on an island off the coast of Brittany where an eccentric family has built a refuge to escape human civilization. When the patriarch mysteriously dies, the family is tossed into a sea of uncertainty, questioning its future on the island. The children especially, Loup, Diane, and the baby of the family, Marie, all wish to return to the mainland to meet other people and live ordinary lives. Their mother, however, longs to hang onto the self-contained world which she knows has outrun its usefulness. Thus comes a battle to stave off a separation which is inevitable, and the film wends its way to a finale that celebrates the bonds of family while bemoaning the tragedy of human codependence. True to his roots, director Serge Lalou chose to shoot this film as a sort of documentary, endowing the work with a pressing sense of immediacy.
