Synopsis by Nicole Gagne
Soviet-influenced editing techniques highlight this early Swedish talkie, set during the civil war in Finnish Karelia in 1918. Armas Beckius (Björn Berglund), a son of nobility, deserts his class and his family for the love of Russian girl Marja (Ingert Bjuggren). He joins the Red workers troops from revolutionary Russia, even though his own brother, Wilhelm (Uno Henning), is a captain in the White army. Armas is captured by the Whites and sentenced to death, but Wilhelm gives him a one-night stay of execution so he can visit Marja. Although she tries to keep Armas with her, he holds to his promise to his brother and returns to the front, only to be mortally wounded before he can be executed.
