Synopsis by Mark Deming

In 1999, Eminem emerged from obscurity after releasing a poor-selling independent album and a handful of singles with several Detroit-area hip-hop groups to become one of the biggest and most controversial new acts in the world, thanks to the massive success of The Slim Shady LP, which earned him both fans and detractors in equal measure. Three more multiplatinum albums later, Eminem is a giant of hip-hop, and this unauthorized documentary features interviews with friends, relatives, rivals, music writers, and business associates who speak candidly about his rise to the top, as well as rare film footage of the artist before he found fame. Please note that Eminem: The Glory Years was made without the participation of Eminem or his record label.
