synopsis
The plot of this Argentine comedy is implicit in its title, which translates as The Newsvendor and the Lady. Beloved Latin-American comedian Luis Sandreni plays the former role, while popular leading lady Rosita Moreno essays the latter part. Told in "Cinderella" fashion, this is the story of how Sandreni rescues his daughter Moreno from marrying a no-good sharpster. Not only does his succeed in this, but he also stage-manages the romance between his daughter and his best friend. The rapid-fire comic dialogue may have been lost to English-speaking audiences, but it never failed to bring down the house in Argentina.
