Synopsis by Clarke Fountain
In this pun-filled satire, based on the stage play by Rudi Stahl, Mattes (Peter Reusse), a communist party leader living in a rural area of East Germany, is discovered to have the power to work miracles. The Vatican sends Monsignor Romeo Aventuro (Jan Triska) to investigate these odd occurrences alongside party secretary Himmelsknecht (Martin Hellberg). Clearly, this gift is unsettling for believers of both persuasions. An unmarried bachelor, Mattes is also pursued by two young women. Of the two, it is Angelika Unglaube (Ursula Werner), or "Angela Unbelief" who wins his hand.
