Synopsis
Part 2 of three. Recalling the New Kingdom's middle period (ca. 1390-1336 B.C.), beginning with the reign of the diplomatically inclined Amenhotep III, who realized that gold was the foundation of his golden empire and dealt with it cannily (his reign also saw the world's first "newspapers," scarabs). His son Akhenaton, who wasn't so diplomatic, was a monotheist and he forced his belief on the country.
