Synopsis by Hal Erickson

Soviet films of the Stalin era were not only propagandastic, but were expected to be. Once in a while, they happened to be entertaining as well. Ballad of Cossack Gloota concentrates upon a couple of peasant lads, played by Vitla Seleznev and Kostia Tirtov. Fleeing the Polish mercenaries who've taken over their village, the boys battle the elements as they try to reach the Russian army. Eventually they succeed, and the courageous soldiers rout the scurrilous invaders.
