Synopsis by Clarke Fountain
In the village regions of Turkey, blood feuds and ancient clan perspectives of honor are a perennial fact of life. Silan and her husband are part of the Drejan tribal group, which vigorously maintains these ancient customs even in modern times. When her husband is killed by a rival group, her brother-in-law is required by local custom to kill someone from the clan of the murderers, despite the outspoken opposition of Muslim clerics (and the Turkish state) to this practice. When he does so, he is sent to prison. After five years, he returns to his village. Meanwhile, Silan has been in conflict with the village elders. In one scene, she defiantly tosses her head scarf away. Anyone of the spectators who picks it up is bound to protect her honor, and fortunately for her, that man is "Crazy" Sulo.
